Tequila is a distilled spirit made from blue Weber agave grown in specific regions of Mexico, primarily Jalisco. Production begins with harvesting mature agave plants and slow cooking the piñas to convert natural sugars. The cooked agave is then crushed to extract juice, which is fermented and distilled to create a pure spirit with bright, earthy, and naturally sweet notes.
Tequila comes in several categories, each defined by aging time and flavor profile. Blanco is unaged or lightly rested and delivers crisp, clean agave character ideal for cocktails. Reposado spends at least two months in oak, creating smooth, lightly spiced flavors. Añejo ages for at least one year and offers deeper notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak that appeal to sipping enthusiasts. Extra Añejo ages three years or more and delivers rich, luxurious flavor similar to premium aged spirits.
Tequila is incredibly versatile and works well for sipping or mixing. Blanco tequila is a popular choice for Margaritas, Palomas, Ranch Waters, and fresh citrus based cocktails. Reposado adds a smooth, rounded flavor that elevates classics like a Tequila Old Fashioned or a premium Margarita. Añejo and Extra Añejo tequilas shine when served neat or over ice, allowing their complex oak driven notes to come through.
